Julie in few words: I’m a shoes designer, based in Nantes. Only few people make my job in France. I draw my models and I manufacture them except the assembling which is made close to Cholet. After Romans, Cholet is the capital for french shoes manufacturing and design.
Your training: I firstly studied history of art then I learned shoes model-making and designing in Cholet. I had good basis for model-making but not for manufacturing, so I made my own training at home and so I made prototypes. Then I got a grant to build my project and I met Laurent Bourquin a men shoes designer. I’ve been sharing a shop in Nantes with Mai Baeg a leather working designer for 2 years.
Your projects: I wish I could sell my shoes abroad, but I want to do everything by myself. London is my first target. I also intend to improve my shoes by sewing soles instead of sticking it.
What do you think about Made in France: for me we have to enhance it: it’s a strength. I must admit that I barely buy made in France clothes because of high price or lack of choice. But I like to barter with other designers I meet.
My favourite designers: Maï baeg, mes illustrations tactiles, Samuel Dronet, Mel de Margot (Nantes), Les Simone (Rennes), Julie Sion (Paris).
